We are encouraged more and more every day as members of our community join our Trinity Harlem and Peacemakers team to serve our city! With our various Interest and Team Meetings, we have been able to add more than 65 people to our launch team. As we establish ourselves in Harlem, we have felt a tremendous call to reach out to those in our neighborhood to make a lasting impact on their life in sustainable ways. Every Saturday we spend time at the St. Nicholas Project Playground where our team facilitates basketball and activities, and hands out water and Gatorade to youth and parents. This has established life-giving relationships and given us an opportunity to share the love of Jesus in a practical way!
Our mission in Harlem has been fueled by Jesus’ words in Matthew 25.
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (v. 35-40).
As we build our foundation in Harlem, we believe that our purpose and call is to help those in need. At Peacemakers and Trinity Harlem, we are committed to our community. We are committed to practical solutions and sustainability. Sometimes, this process simply begins when we spend time playing basketball with kids on the streets.
We are gearing up for our amazing outreach event called Heart For Harlem on June 27th. We will provide medical and dental exams, haircuts, healthy food, face painting and fun activities, as well as a basketball tournament! We believe that this event will be a huge success and we are looking forward to even more lives impacted through Peacemakers. Stay updated with all God is doing in Harlem online trinityharlem.com.
